About Jigsaw Puzzles for Kids

How to use

1. Pick a picture from the library — Cat Face, Dog Face, House, and more. Each is a hand-drawn SVG with bold colors and clear shapes that kids recognize, not photo-quality images that get muddy at small sizes.
2. Choose a piece count: 4 or 6 pieces for ages 3-4 (still learning corner/edge logic), 9 or 16 for ages 5-7, 25+ for older kids who can plan ahead. Match the count to the child — frustrated kids quit; bored kids quit. The sweet spot is one step harder than last time.
3. Drag a piece from the tray on the side toward where you think it goes on the board. The piece highlights green and snaps into place with a chime when it's within range of the correct slot, so younger kids don't need to hit the spot exactly.
4. If a piece is wrong, it bounces back to the tray and plays a soft buzz tone — no scolding, just retry. Kids learn faster with this kind of immediate, friendly feedback than with parents narrating "that's not right".
5. Scan the picture before dragging: corner pieces have two flat edges, edge pieces have one. Teaching this corner-then-edges-then-middle order is the same strategy adults use on real puzzles, and it transfers directly.
6. Win triggers a confetti burst and a chord progression. Kids who finish in under the suggested time get bonus stars — a gentle nudge toward thinking before grabbing.
7. Jigsaws build spatial reasoning, the same skill that predicts later math achievement (NIH studies on early spatial play). Aim for one or two completed puzzles per session — finishing matters more than starting many.
