About Beat Maker for Kids
Make beats free online — kids create music with a visual drum machine. Layer loops, build rhythms, and explore sound patterns. No ads, no sign-up required.
How to use
- The grid has four rows — Kick (low thump), Snare (sharp clap), Hi-Hat (steady tick), and Clap — and 16 columns representing one bar of 4/4 time, divided into 16th notes.
- Tap any cell to place a beat on that instrument at that step. Tap again to clear it. The big visual highlight tells you exactly which step is currently playing.
- Press Play to start the loop — it cycles forever until you hit Stop. Adjust the Tempo slider between 60 and 180 BPM to match what you're going for (60 is a slow ballad, 120 is a pop song, 160 is fast electronic).
- Try a preset to learn classic patterns: Rock (110 BPM, kick on 1-and-3), Hip Hop (85 BPM, syncopated kick), Dance (128 BPM, four-on-the-floor), or March (100 BPM, military feel). Then tweak the cells to make it your own.
- Layer the four parts in order: kick first (the foundation), then snare on beats 2 and 4, then hi-hats every step for energy, then claps for accents. This is how real producers build beats.
- Beat-maker introduces 4/4 time signatures and 16th-note subdivisions visually — Orff Schulwerk and Kodály methodologies both use grid-based rhythm before staff notation, making this a natural first step into composition.
- Everything runs in your browser using Web Audio — no sign-up, no ads, no recordings sent anywhere. The big square buttons and bright per-instrument colors are designed for tablets and small fingers.
