About Music Lessons for Kids

Free music lessons for kids — learn notes, scales, rhythm, and time signatures with interactive exercises. Perfect for beginners ages 5-12. No ads or sign-up needed.

How to use

  1. Pick a song from the dropdown: Twinkle Twinkle, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Hot Cross Buns, Ode to Joy, Jingle Bells, Happy Birthday, London Bridge, or Row Your Boat — eight classics chosen for their range (mostly C4 to C5, with a few notes in the next octave) so beginner hands can reach every key.
  2. The song appears as a row of color-coded dots above the keyboard — each dot shows the next note to play, with C in red, D in orange, E in yellow, F in green, G in teal, A in blue, and B in purple.
  3. Press the matching colored key on the piano. The current note glows; once you play it, the dot fades and the next dot lights up. The song waits for you, so there's no penalty for thinking.
  4. Tap Hear Note to play the next note for you — useful when your child can't remember which key matches a color. It teaches by ear, not just by reading.
  5. Music Lessons teaches treble-clef letter naming (the C-D-E-F-G-A-B alphabet) plus relative pitch through the rainbow color system — the same color-to-note mapping used in Boomwhackers and many beginner method books, including Suzuki Piano Volume 1 supplementary materials.
  6. Once a child can play all 8 songs without hints, they're ready for staff-notation reading: the colored dots translate one-to-one to standard notes on a music staff.
  7. Audio is generated with Web Audio synthesis — no downloads, no sign-up, no ads. The full lesson set works offline once loaded, making it travel-friendly for road trips and waiting rooms.
