About War Card Game for Kids

Play War card game free online — flip cards and compare values to capture the higher card. Classic kids card game that teaches number comparison. Ages 4-8. No ads.

How to use

  1. The deck is split evenly: 26 cards to you, 26 to the computer (or a friend in pass-and-play mode). Cards stay face-down in front of each player. Recommended for ages 4-8 — War is the first "compare two numbers" game most kids master.
  2. Tap your deck to flip the top card. Both players reveal at the same time. The card with the higher rank (Ace high, 2 low) wins both cards, which go to the bottom of the winner's deck.
  3. Suits don't matter — only rank. The game shows the comparison clearly so kids can sound out "Jack beats 7" or "Queen beats Jack," reinforcing card-value order which lines up with first-grade greater-than/less-than work.
  4. When both flipped cards are the same rank, it's WAR! Each player puts three cards face-down on top, then flips one more face-up. Higher of the new two wins everything on the table — that's a six-card swing, the highlight of any game.
  5. If a player runs out of cards mid-war, the game uses the standard "last card up" rule — they reveal whatever cards they have left and play continues. The first player to collect all 52 cards wins.
  6. Strategy hint: there isn't one. War is a pure game of luck — that's actually why it's perfect for ages 4-6, because younger siblings can win against older ones, parents, or grandparents on the same footing. Great for fairness lessons.
  7. War builds rank-order recognition, greater-than/less-than fluency, and turn-taking patience — privacy-safe: no sign-up, no ads, no chat, COPPA-friendly. Once loaded, the game works offline so it travels well in the car or on a plane.
