About Number Sense for Kids
Free number sense games for kids — practice counting, estimation, skip counting, place value, and rounding. Interactive math activities for ages 4-8. No ads, no sign-up.
How to use
- Pick an age band at the bottom — Ages 4-6, 6-8, 8-10, or 10+. Each band loads a different style of question matched to typical K-Grade 5 number-sense milestones.
- Ages 4-6: count emoji groups (apples, fish, butterflies, etc.) up to 10. This matches Common Core K.CC.B.4 (cardinality — knowing the last number named tells the count) and Ontario K math expectations.
- Ages 6-8: solve skip-counting sequences like 2, 4, 6, ?, 10. Skip-counting by 2s/3s/5s/10s is the bridge to multiplication and Common Core 2.NBT.A.2.
- Ages 8-10: do mental two-digit addition (e.g., 27 + 36). No paper allowed — picking the correct sum from four choices builds estimation and number-sense fluency tested in Grade 3 standardized assessments.
- Ages 10+: tackle multiplication facts up to 12 × 12. This rounds out the elementary fluency goals in Common Core 3.OA.C.7 and BC's K-7 numeracy framework.
- Each round is 10 questions. Kids see immediate visual feedback — green for correct, the right answer revealed for wrong — and earn 1-3 stars at the end based on accuracy.
- Parent tip: 5-minute daily sessions work better than long ones. Research from the Center for Early Math Learning shows that short, frequent practice beats marathon drills for retention in K-Grade 3.
