About Free Printable Decimals Worksheets for Parents & Teachers
Decimal tenths start in Grade 4: in Ontario, Grade 4 students read, represent and compare decimal tenths and connect them to fractions; in the Common Core, 4.NF.C.5-7 introduces tenths and hundredths as fractions with denominator 10 and 100 and asks students to compare two decimals to hundredths.

Free printable decimals worksheets for Grades 3-5: tenths and hundredths grids, decimal number lines with lettered points, comparing decimals and fraction-decimal conversion. Answer key included.
How to use
- Pick a worksheet. 'Mixed review' puts four skills on one page: fraction and decimal from a grid, a number line, comparing, and converting. The other five types fill a page with one skill: write the fraction and decimal for each model, shade the decimal, decimals on a number line, compare decimals, and fractions and decimals.
- Choose the decimals. 'Tenths' (0.1 to 0.9) matches Grade 4. 'Tenths past one' uses whole squares plus a part, and number lines like 6 to 8, for numbers such as 1.4 and 6.3. 'Hundredths' uses a hundred grid and a zoomed-in number line, and its compare sheet mixes in the classic 0.45 versus 0.5 trap.
- Use the seed to reproduce a sheet. The seed in the footer always regenerates the same problems, and 'Copy link' saves the type, range and seed together.
- Print. 'Print worksheet' gives the student copy, 'Print answer key' gives the same sheet with every grid shaded and every blank filled in, and 'Print both' puts both pages in one job. Each sheet fills exactly one letter page.
Frequently asked questions
What grade are decimals worksheets for?
Decimal tenths start in Grade 4: in Ontario, Grade 4 students read, represent and compare decimal tenths and connect them to fractions; in the Common Core, 4.NF.C.5-7 introduces tenths and hundredths as fractions with denominator 10 and 100 and asks students to compare two decimals to hundredths. Grade 5 extends to thousandths and decimal operations. Use the Tenths setting for Grade 4, Hundredths for late Grade 4 and Grade 5, and Tenths past one for numbers like 1.4 and 2.7.
Why start decimals with a grid instead of the decimal point?
A tenths grid shows that 0.3 is three of ten equal parts, the same as the fraction 3/10. Writing the fraction and the decimal for the same picture builds the link between them, which is what the curriculum asks for. Children who learn the decimal point as a rule without the picture often believe a longer decimal is bigger (0.45 > 0.5); shading both on a hundred grid shows the opposite at a glance.
What is the most common decimal mistake?
Treating the digits after the point like a whole number, so 0.45 seems bigger than 0.5 because 45 is bigger than 5. The Compare worksheet in Hundredths mode deliberately mixes these pairs (0.5 and 0.45, 0.3 and 0.29) and pairs like 0.4 and 0.40 that are equal. Ask children to read 0.5 as five tenths, or fifty hundredths, before comparing.
How does the seed work?
Every worksheet has a 6-character seed in the footer. The same seed always gives the same problems, so you can print a class set and one answer key from the same link, or reprint the sheet later. Copy link saves the worksheet type, the decimal range and the seed.
