About Battleship for Kids

Play Battleship free online — place your fleet and hunt the enemy navy with colorful ships and explosions. Kid-friendly strategy game that teaches grid coordinates and logic.

How to use

1. Place your fleet on a 10x10 ocean grid: click and drag to position the Carrier (5 cells), Battleship (4), Cruiser (3), Submarine (3), and Destroyer (2). Tap the Rotate button to flip a ship from horizontal to vertical before placing it. Recommended for ages 6-12 (Grades 1-6).
2. Once both fleets are placed, the game enters firing mode. Click any cell on the enemy grid to launch a shot — the cell flashes red for a hit, blue for a miss, exactly like classic Hasbro Battleship.
3. When all cells of a ship are hit, the game announces the sinking by name ("You sunk my Cruiser!") and reveals the ship's location, helping kids learn coordinate geometry without it feeling like a math lesson.
4. The computer opponent fires back on its turn. Easy AI shoots randomly; Medium AI hunts adjacent cells after a hit (the same logic kids learn intuitively); Hard AI uses parity-grid checkerboard targeting for a real challenge.
5. Win by sinking all five enemy ships before your fleet is destroyed. The scoreboard tracks shots fired, hit ratio, and games won so kids can watch their accuracy improve over time.
6. Strategy hint: spread ships apart and avoid touching edges — clustered fleets sink fast once the AI finds one ship. When firing, use a checkerboard pattern (every other cell) until you score a hit, then switch to hunting adjacent cells.
7. Battleship builds grid-coordinate fluency, deductive reasoning, and probability intuition — skills that map directly onto Cartesian coordinates in Grade 5 math. Privacy-safe: no sign-up, no ads, no tracking, and the game works offline once loaded.
