About Word Rescue for Kids
Play Word Rescue free online — guess words letter by letter to save the character. Kid-friendly word guessing game that builds vocabulary and spelling. No ads.
How to use
- Pick a difficulty: Easy (3-letter words), Medium (5-letter words), or Hard (7-letter words). Easy and Medium also show the word's category as a hint; Hard hides it as a Mystery Word.
- Each puzzle pulls from one of six themed word banks — Animals (cat, panda, narwhal), Food (pie, pizza, pancake), Colors (red, coral, crimson), School (pen, ruler, teacher), Nature (sun, river, rainbow), and Sports (run, rugby, baseball).
- Tap or click letters on the keyboard to guess. Correct letters fill in the blank spaces; wrong guesses make one of your six gold stars disappear.
- Use the letter-frequency trick — start with the most common English letters E, T, A, O, I, N, S, R (the ETAOIN-SHRDLU pattern from journalism). Cracking just one or two vowels usually reveals the word's shape.
- After every wrong guess, look at the gap pattern. A double letter near the end (like _ _ -L-L) often means BALL, BELL, FALL, or HILL — narrow your next guess to fit.
- Solve the word before all six stars vanish. The number of stars you save becomes your score, so a no-mistake solve is the gold standard.
- Word Rescue swaps the traditional hanging-figure visual for friendly disappearing stars — same vocabulary and spelling-pattern training, more parent-and-classroom-appropriate. No sign-up, no ads.
