Free Mad Libs-style story builder for kids — fill in missing words to create funny stories. Teaches parts of speech and vocabulary. Ages 5-12. No ads, no sign-up.

How to use

  1. Pick a story template from the dropdown: Adventure, Funny, Mystery, Fairy Tale, Space, or Underwater. Each one is a 6-blank Mad-Libs-style framework with a different narrative arc kids can recognize.
  2. Tap New Story to begin. The tool walks you through 6 prompts in order — like 'Pick a describing word,' 'Pick an animal,' 'Pick a place' — so kids learn parts-of-speech by category, not just label.
  3. Each prompt offers 4 picture-paired choices (e.g., 🦁 brave / 🥷 sneaky / 🤪 silly / 🐜 tiny). Picture-word pairing supports emerging readers and English language learners while still teaching adjective vs noun.
  4. Watch the progress bar and 'So far' line at the top — it shows your word picks as you go, building anticipation. This previewing builds working memory and narrative comprehension skills (Common Core RL.K.2 through RL.5.2).
  5. When all 6 blanks are filled, the finished story appears with your words color-coded so kids can see exactly which words they contributed. Read it aloud yourself — or tap Read Aloud to use text-to-speech.
  6. Tap Make Another! to try a new story or change templates. Doing the same template twice with different words is great for vocabulary expansion — kids see how one word swap changes a whole scene.
  7. Parent tip: this is a perfect 5-minute reluctant-reader unlock. Stories are silly by design (the 'Funny' template can produce a chicken eating spaghetti at the swimming pool), and laughter is one of the strongest motivators for re-engagement with reading per Krashen's research.
