Glass & Final Interior Wipe-Down: the full procedure
Clean all glass streak-free inside and out and do a final detail pass — the last step before QC.
- Applies to: Detailers.
- Frequency: End of every detail, before QC.
- Scope: Covers glass + the final wipe-down pass.
What you need
- Auto glass cleaner
- Dedicated glass microfiber (two-towel)
- Detail towel
The procedure, step by step
- Glass last — Do glass after the interior is cleaned so cleaning overspray doesn’t re-soil it; lower windows slightly to reach the top edge.
- Spray the towel, not the glass — Spray cleaner onto the microfiber (not the glass) to avoid overspray on trim/screens.
- Two-towel method, one pane at a time — Clean with one towel, then dry/buff with a second clean glass towel, working one window at a time. Use a horizontal-inside / vertical-outside pattern so any remaining streak shows which side it’s on.
- Final detail pass — Walk the whole vehicle (interior and exterior) for missed spots, residue, smudges, and fingerprints, and touch them up.
- Stage for QC — Leave the vehicle clean and ready for the final QC inspection (its own SOP).
Quality check before you finish
- Glass done after interior; tops reached.
- Sprayed towel not glass.
- Two-towel, one pane at a time; streak-free.
- Final pass for missed spots/residue.
- Staged ready for QC.

Frequently asked questions
How do you clean car glass streak-free?
Use a dedicated glass cleaner and clean glass microfiber, work one pane at a time (a two-towel method — clean then dry/buff), and do the inside last so interior cleaning overspray doesn’t re-soil it. Lower windows slightly to get the top edge.
What is the final wipe-down?
A last detail pass after glass: check for missed spots, residue, and smudges across the interior and exterior, and touch them up — so the car is QC-ready and the customer’s first look is flawless.
