Test, Verify, Cleanup & Demo: the full procedure
Run a full functional test to confirm the repair, clean the work area, and demonstrate the working appliance to the customer before closing the job.
- Applies to: All technicians, end of every repair
- Frequency: Every completed repair
- Scope: Defines the final verification, cleanup, and customer handoff steps. Functional testing follows manufacturer service info; any residual gas or refrigerant concern defers to a licensed/certified technician.
What you need
- Manufacturer test/cycle procedure
- Multimeter
- Cleaning supplies
- Customer-facing notes
- Error-code reader
- Work order/invoice
The procedure, step by step
- Restore power and water — Reconnect power and water per the Safe Disconnect SOP and confirm connections are secure and leak-free.
- Run a full functional test — Operate the appliance through the complete cycle or function that originally failed to confirm the repair holds.
- Clear error codes — Clear any stored fault codes and verify no new codes appear during the test cycle.
- Check for leaks and noise — Inspect for water leaks, abnormal noise, or vibration and confirm the original symptom is gone.
- Clean the work area — Remove debris, wipe surfaces, and leave the space as clean as or cleaner than on arrival.
- Demo to the customer — Show the customer the appliance working, explain what failed and what was replaced, and share any care tips.
- Close the job — Confirm satisfaction, complete the work order, and proceed to invoicing per the Business SOPs.

This is a free, source-anchored standard operating procedure (SOP) you can print and hand to staff. It documents the work sequence for a Appliance Repair business — not safety or regulatory rulings, which defer to the cited authorities, the applicable code, and your own health-and-safety plan. Frequently asked questions
Why run a full cycle test before leaving?
Running the complete cycle or function that originally failed confirms the repair actually holds and that no new fault codes appear. Catching a leak, noise, or recurring symptom on site prevents a return trip and protects the customer relationship.
What if a new symptom suggests a gas or refrigerant issue at testing?
Stop and defer. Functional testing can surface a new concern, but gas and sealed-refrigerant issues must be handled by a licensed/EPA 608-certified technician under the manufacturer's service information rather than addressed in the field.
