About Pixel Avatar Maker
To make a pixel art avatar, pick a hairstyle, eyes, nose, mouth, ears, shirt and accessory from the parts panel, recolor skin, hair and clothing from the palette, then export. Randomize rolls both parts and coordinated colours, and anything you lock stays put.

Make a pixel art avatar in seconds: mix hair, eyes, mouths, noses, ears, shirts and accessories, recolor skin and hair, then export a PNG, animated GIF or sprite sheet. Free, no sign-up.
How to use
- Pick a category in the left rail (Shirt, Ears, Hair, Eyes, Nose, Mouth, Accessory) and click a part in the parts grid to put it on your avatar. The canvas is 36 by 36 pixels, sized for a head-and-shoulders portrait.
- Recolor from the Colours panel on the right: skin, hair, shirt, shirt trim and accessory each have their own swatches. Shadows and highlights update automatically, so one click recolors the whole ramp.
- Hit Randomize to roll every unlocked part and a matching outfit colour scheme at once. Lock a category (padlock in the left rail) or a single colour (padlock in the Colours panel) to keep it while you reroll the rest. The Colours button reshuffles colours only.
- Switch the render style between Polished (soft coloured outlines and a rim light on the lit side) and Classic (hard outlines, raw pixels). The style you pick is also what you export.
- Use the arrow pad under the stage to nudge the selected part a pixel at a time, and the layer arrows in the left rail to move a part in front of or behind another.
- Click Export and choose a PNG image, an animated GIF of the idle bob, or a sprite sheet with every animation frame in a row. Pick 1×, 2×, 4× or 8× size and optionally trim the empty space. Sprite sheets can add up to 8 rows of colour variants.
- Click Share to copy a link that rebuilds this exact avatar, or Save to keep it in your ToolFluency library. You can also upload your own PNG part with the + tile and map its colours to the palette.
Examples
A cast of villagers for an RPG
Lock the render style, then roll until you have a dozen distinct faces. Export a sprite sheet with 8 colour variants of your favourite and you have a crowd of townsfolk that share one look.
Matching Discord or Twitch avatars
Build one avatar, lock every part, and reshuffle only the shirt colours to make a matching set for a team or server roles. Export each as a 4× PNG or an animated GIF.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use these avatars in a commercial game?
Yes. Avatars you make are yours to use in commercial games, apps, videos, profile pictures and streams, with no royalties. ToolFluency claims no rights to what you export. A credit is appreciated but not required.
Can I export an animated avatar?
Yes. Export has an Animated GIF option that loops the idle animation with a transparent background, and a Sprite sheet option that lays every frame out in a row for a game engine. Both honour the size (1× to 8×) and trim options.
What size is the avatar?
The native canvas is 36 by 36 pixels. Export at 1× for game sprite slots, or 4× (144 px) and 8× (288 px) for profile pictures and store pages. Scaling uses nearest-neighbour, so pixels stay crisp.
How do I keep some parts when I randomize?
Click the padlock next to a category in the left rail to keep that part, or the padlock next to a colour row to keep that colour. Randomize then only changes what is unlocked.
How do I import an avatar into Unity, Godot or Phaser?
Drop the PNG or sprite sheet into your project. In Unity set Filter Mode to Point (no filter); in Godot turn texture filtering off; in Phaser enable pixelArt in the game config. Sprite sheet file names include the frame size, so you can slice them straight away.
How is this different from Character Builder?
Pixel Avatar Maker makes head-and-shoulders portraits for profile pictures, chat and dialogue UI. Character Builder makes full-body game sprites. Use this one for faces, Character Builder for the character that walks around.
