How to use

  1. Choose your difficulty level. Easy mode uses shorter words (4-6 letters), Medium uses mid-length words (6-8 letters), and Hard uses longer, more challenging words (8-12 letters). The category of the word is shown as a hint above the word display.
  2. Guess letters by clicking the on-screen keyboard or typing on your physical keyboard. If the letter is in the hidden word, it will appear in its correct position. If it is not in the word, part of the hangman figure will be drawn.
  3. Use the category hint and revealed letters to narrow down the word. Common letters like E, A, R, S, T, and N are good starting guesses. Pay attention to word patterns and letter combinations to deduce the remaining letters.
  4. Try to guess the word before the hangman is fully drawn. You have 6 wrong guesses — one for each body part (head, body, left arm, right arm, left leg, right leg). Your stats track wins, losses, current streak, and win percentage.

How do you play Hangman?
A secret word is chosen at random from one of eight categories: Animals, Countries, Food, Movies, Sports, Science, Occupations, and Objects. The word is displayed as blank underscores. You guess one letter at a time by clicking the on-screen keyboard or pressing a key on your physical keyboard. If the letter appears in the word, all instances are revealed. If not, a body part is drawn on the hangman figure. You win by guessing all letters before the figure is complete.
How many wrong guesses do I get?
You get exactly 6 wrong guesses. Each wrong guess adds a body part to the hangman: first the head, then the body, left arm, right arm, left leg, and finally the right leg. After the 6th wrong guess the game is over and the hidden word is revealed.
What categories are available?
There are 8 word categories: Animals, Countries, Food, Movies, Sports, Science, Occupations, and Objects. The category is displayed as a hint during the game to help narrow down your guesses. The database contains over 500 words across all categories.
What is the best strategy for Hangman?
Start by guessing the most common letters in English: E, A, R, I, O, T, N, and S. These letters appear in the majority of English words. Once you have a few letters revealed, use the category hint and the word's pattern to make educated guesses. Avoid guessing uncommon letters like X, Z, Q, or J early on unless the pattern strongly suggests them.
Can I use my physical keyboard?
Yes — you can click the on-screen letter buttons or simply press any letter key on your physical keyboard. Both input methods work the same way. Used letters are highlighted in green (correct) or dimmed (wrong) so you can easily track your guesses.
