About Free Equipment Pre-Start SOP

Free printable daily equipment pre-start and inspection SOP for lawn crews: fluids, air filter, blade, tires, and safety controls checked before the day, with a logging step.

How to use

  1. Read the full procedure top to bottom before the work — the SOP runs in order and each step builds on the last.
  2. Toggle Ink-saver (black & white) for a cheaper mono print for the truck binder; leave it off for the full-color version.
  3. Click Print SOP to print or save as PDF. Print one per crew, laminate it for the job binder, or attach it to the job in your scheduling system.
  4. Train new hires on it and have crews sign off. Found something out of date for your region or equipment? Use the feedback link — flagged SOPs are re-researched against the source list.

Frequently asked questions

What should you check on a mower before each use?
Engine oil at the dipstick mark (not overfilled), fuel, a clean air filter, blade and deck condition, tire pressure to spec, and that the safety controls work and the blade stops within a few seconds of disengaging. Check handhelds for fuel, line, and starting too.
Why log the daily equipment check?
Logging makes the check real and accountable, and it lets you tag and pull any faulty machine from service so a known-bad mower never goes out. The log also surfaces recurring issues that point to a needed repair or replacement.
