About Free Leaf & Seasonal Cleanup SOP

Free printable leaf and seasonal cleanup SOP: when to mulch leaves in place versus collect and haul, mulch-mow technique, and protecting beds and perennials.

How to use

  1. Read the full procedure top to bottom before the work — the SOP runs in order and each step builds on the last.
  2. Toggle Ink-saver (black & white) for a cheaper mono print for the truck binder; leave it off for the full-color version.
  3. Click Print SOP to print or save as PDF. Print one per crew, laminate it for the job binder, or attach it to the job in your scheduling system.
  4. Train new hires on it and have crews sign off. Found something out of date for your region or equipment? Use the feedback link — flagged SOPs are re-researched against the source list.

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to mulch leaves or rake them?
For a thin, dry layer (up to about an inch of cover), mulch-mowing in place is better: the chopped leaves filter into the turf, return nutrients, and do not cause thatch. Collect and haul when the layer is thick or wet, and for pine needles, which resist breakdown.
Can leaves be left on garden beds?
A light layer is fine, but do not leave a thick leaf blanket on planting beds — it can smother perennial crowns. Clear excess from beds and remove any diseased plant material rather than mulching it in.
