About Free Printable Yahtzee Rules

Free printable Yahtzee rules — how to play in 13 rounds, scoring categories, upper bonus (63/+35), Yahtzee bonus (+100), Joker rule, and variants. Full color or ink-saver B&W.

How to use

  1. Choose your print style. Full color uses a warm Yahtzee-red accent and white dice with dark pips — perfect as a reference poster for family game night. Ink-saver (black & white) switches to a high-contrast monochrome version for an economical classroom or party handout.
  2. Choose whether to show dice diagrams. Diagrams on (the default) includes a three-roll turn flow, dice examples for all 13 scoring categories, a side-by-side Small vs Large Straight comparison, and a mini scorecard reference. Text only gives the most compact summary.
  3. Read the preview to confirm the layout — the rules flow from objective and setup, through the three rolls per turn, all 13 categories, the upper bonus (63/+35), the Yahtzee bonus (+100), the Joker rule for extra Yahtzees, winning, and common variants (Triple Yahtzee, Yatzy, Maxi Yatzy).
  4. Click Print Rules to send it to your printer or save it as a PDF. The full illustrated guide prints cleanly across a few standard letter or A4 pages; choose Text only for the most compact summary.

Frequently asked questions

How many rolls do you get per turn in Yahtzee?
Up to three rolls. Roll all 5 dice, set aside any you want to keep, then re-roll the rest for Rolls 2 and 3. You may pick up dice you previously kept, and you can stop early. After your final roll you must enter a score in one unused category.
How does the upper bonus in Yahtzee work?
If your six upper categories (Aces through Sixes) total 63 or more, you add a +35 bonus. 63 represents an average of three of each face (3×1 + 3×2 + … + 3×6 = 63). You don't need three of every number — you can fall short on some and make it up on others.
What happens when you roll a second Yahtzee?
If your Yahtzee box already shows 50, each extra Yahtzee scores a +100 bonus. You then place the dice in a category by the Joker rule: matching upper box first if open, then Full House (25), Small Straight (30), or Large Straight (40) in the lower section even without the normal pattern. No bonus if the Yahtzee box was scratched (0).
What is the difference between a Small Straight and a Large Straight?
Small Straight = any 4 consecutive numbers (1-2-3-4, 2-3-4-5, or 3-4-5-6) — fifth die can be anything — scores 30. Large Straight = all 5 in sequence (1-2-3-4-5 or 2-3-4-5-6 only) — scores 40.
Do you have to score every turn in Yahtzee?
Yes. After your final roll you must enter a score in exactly one unused category. If your dice don't satisfy the chosen category you enter a 0 (a 'scratch'). This rule forces strategic sacrifices when a turn goes badly.
